MANASSAS, VIRGINIA—The Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative (NOVEC) Dollars for Scholars program will award ten college scholarships totaling $11,500 to selected high school students whose families are Co-op members in Fairfax, Fauquier, Loudoun, Prince William, and Stafford counties, and the City of Manassas Park. Applications may be printed from www.novec.com, or picked up in area high schools.  The scholarship winners will be announced in June 2007.  Eligible college-bound seniors must live in homes served by NOVEC.

One student will be selected from Fauquier, Loudoun and Stafford counties and the City of Manassas Park.  Two students will be selected from Fairfax and Prince William, because the majority of NOVEC customers live in these counties.  NOVEC will award one scholarship to a student who is home-schooled or attends private school.  In addition, one student whose parent works for NOVEC will receive a scholarship, if he or she is eligible.  Each selected student will receive a $1,000 scholarship to a college of his or her choice.

The J. Manley Garber Scholarship—named for NOVEC's chairman of the board—will be awarded to the most outstanding student among the ten winners.  The Garber Scholarship winner will receive an additional $1,500 for a total of $2,500.

Applications are now being accepted for the NOVEC Dollars for Scholars program, and will be accepted through Monday, April 9, 2007.
