MANASSAS, VA--Don M. Middleton retired from the Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative's board of directors in September after serving as Co-op director for 30 years.  He represented the Loudoun County region.

Middleton was elected to the Tri-County Electric Cooperative Board of Directors in 1977.  He was instrumental in helping Tri-County merge with Prince William Electric Cooperative to form NOVEC in 1983.

Middleton has served as NOVEC's board vice president and Audit Committee chairman.

During his tenure, NOVEC has grown from serving approximately 38,000 customers to serving more than 137,500 in 2007.

At NOVEC's annual meeting on September 26, Middleton praised NOVEC's board and staff.  He said, "I have had the pleasure of working with many fine people over the years at the Co-op. NOVEC has a great manager and staff and is fortunate to have experienced board members, especially Manley Garber who has served for many years as chairman. We on the board have worked hard to achieve lower wholesale rates for our customers. I'm sure the board will continue this effort."

Garber thanked Middleton for serving on the board. "It has been a pleasure working with Don on the board for the last 30 years," said Garber. "His contributions and service to the Co-op have been immeasurable, especially during the Tri-County and Prince William

Co-op merger in1983. We will miss him."

Born in Arcola, Virginia, in 1932, Middleton graduated from Randolph Macon College in Ashland, Virginia, in 1961 and received a Masters degree in school administration from George Washington University in 1967. He married Edith Marie Jones in 1960. They have three sons: Bob, D. Brook, and Matthew.

Middleton started his career teaching English in middle schools and at Loudoun Valley High School. He moved into Loudoun County Public Schools administration before retiring in 1989.
