Legislative Youth Tour
An Opportunity for High School Students
From June 17-21, 2012, participants will gather in Washington, D.C., with more than 1,400 of their peers from across the U.S. to learn about electric cooperatives, tour historical and cultural sights, and meet their representatives in Congress. There will also be time for recreation including a boat cruise, dinner dance and other fun activities. In February 2013, the Youth Tour delegates will spend a day at the Virginia General Assembly in Richmond. They will meet with their local legislators, attend sessions in the House of Delegates and the Senate, and sit in on committee hearings in both house and senate. Completed applications, essay and letters of recommendations must be received by March 14. Click here for an application.Youth Tour has been a joint effort of local electric co-ops, statewide co-op associations, such as the Virginia, Maryland and Delaware Association of Electric Cooperatives, and the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association for more than 45 years. Since its inception in 1964, more than 40,000 high school students have participated in Youth Tour. Last year there was a record of more than 1,480 YT representatives in attendance.
