MANASSAS, Va. ― The Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative ranks second highest in customer satisfaction among midsize electric utilities in the United States South region and second highest among the 140 largest electric utilities in the nation according to the J.D. Power and Associates 2015 Electric Utility Residential Customer Satisfaction StudySM released on July 15, 2015.

NOVEC received 746 points in overall customer satisfaction. It scored highest in the industry in power quality and reliability, and in communications. It scored second highest in price and in corporate citizenship. SECO Energy, a cooperative in Sumterville, Florida, edged out NOVEC by receiving the highest overall score of 749 points.

The research company based its findings on responses from more than 100,000 online interviews conducted from July 2014 through May 2015 among residential customers of the largest electric utility brands across the United States. The study ranks large and midsize utility companies in the South, East, Midwest, and West geographic regions. Companies in the midsize utility segment serve between 100,000 and 499,999 residential customers. Companies in the large utility segment serve 500,000 or more residential customers. In all, the utilities serve more than 96 million households.

The study asked customers to respond to questions regarding their utility's power quality and reliability, price, billing and payment, corporate citizenship, communications, and customer service. The utilities in the study scored an average of 668 points, based on a 1,000-point scale.

According to a July 15, 2015, J.D. Power and Associates news release, overall customer satisfaction improved from 2014 with an average increase of 21 points. NOVEC's factor scores increased in every category compared to the 2014 final results, which resulted in the overall customer satisfaction improving by 24 points. Despite the region experiencing one of the coldest winters on record, NOVEC received its highest score ever from the study.

"This is the first time NOVEC has ranked in the top five in all components of customer satisfaction," said Mike Curtis, NOVEC vice president of Public Relations. "That is a great feat and testament to the dedication and professionalism of every member of the NOVEC team."
