MANASSAS, Va. – Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative is asking students to crank up their imaginations along with their keyboards.

NOVEC is sponsoring a creative writing contest for children between the ages of 5-16, who have a parent or guardian that receives electricity from the Cooperative.

Each child can submit one original, fictional story of no more than 500 words, where electricity is the “hero” of the story.

Prizes will be awarded to the best story by a student:

• 5-9 years old

• 10-13 years old

• 14-16 years old

Portions of the winning stories will be featured in a future issue of Cooperative Living, NOVEC’s magazine for members.

When submitting an entry, please include: the author’s name, age, hometown, school, grade in school, and a sentence about how the child feels about writing.

Send entries by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, May 15 to: Writing Contest, NOVEC Public Relations, P.O. Box 2710, Manassas, VA 20108, or email communications@novec.com.
