NORTHERN VIRGINIA—The Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative board of directors elected Wade C. House chairman of the board at their October 2, 2008, meeting in Manassas, Va. House succeeds J. Manley Garber, who will serve as vice chairman. Both offices carry one-year terms, which began October 2, 2008.
“After 58 years of serving on the Co-op board, I’ve decided to pass the torch,” said Garber. “I will continue to serve on the board until my term expires in 2010. I think this is a good business-continuity move. Wade has served on the board for 15 years; he is ready to lead.”
House, a resident of Nokesville, Va., said, “I’m honored to be elected chairman of the NOVEC board. Manley has led the Co-op extremely well, and I know his continued guidance as vice chairman over the next couple years will help with the transition. I know all of us on the board, as well as Co-op staff members and customer-owners, have benefited tremendously from Manley’s leadership for almost six decades.”
The Cooperative’s members elected House to the NOVEC board in 1993. He has represented the Nokesville, Haymarket, and Bull Run areas in District 5 since then. House has served as secretary, treasurer, and vice chairman of the board.
Garber, who lives in Woodbridge, was elected to the Prince William Electric Cooperative in 1950. He continued to serve on the board when PWEC consolidated with Tri-County Electric Cooperative in 1983. He has filled all positions on the board—most notably the chairmanship. Garber represents the Woodbridge, Dale City, and Montclair areas in District 7.
