Transformers

The underground electrical system at NOVEC operates through a system of underground cables which feed above ground pad-mounted transformers, junction boxes and switches. These transformers are inspected for damage, graffiti and rust on a system-wide, 10-year cycle. Crews began inspecting and repainting transformers in the Dale City area in 1999 and are moving through the Centreville area now.

A major component of NOVEC's underground electric system are transformers
Transformers are routinely inspected by TMS crews

Transformers are inspected for safety, sanded, repainted and re-decaled by crews from Transformer Maintenance and Services, Inc. throughout the year during good weather.

Proper landscaping around these boxes is also checked during these inspections and randomly if problems arise. Please note proper planting instructions which are located on the decal on the door of every NOVEC metal pad mounted unit.
