MANASSAS, Va. —  Applications for the Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative (NOVEC) college scholarship program are being accepted through April 1. High school seniors attending public, private or home school whose families are served by NOVEC lines in Fairfax, Fauquier, Loudoun, Prince William, and Stafford counties and the City of Manassas Park may apply.

The Co-op has increased its awards this year. Scholarship recipients will receive $2,000 instead of $1,500; they will also be automatically eligible for an additional $5,000 — up from $3,500 — through the J. Manley Garber Scholarship. Anyone who applies for a NOVEC scholarship is automatically eligible for this award, given each year to recognize the most exceptional scholarship winner.

Applicants must have a GPA of 3.5 or higher and submit two letters of recommendation. They must be able to show that they have participated in extracurricular activities that demonstrate community service, work experience, or leadership responsibilities.

One scholarship will be available for a student planning to attend a Historically Black College or University. NOVEC will also award one scholarship to a student planning to attend a vocational or trade school.

VMDAEC Scholarships

Each year, the Virginia, Maryland & Delaware Association of Electric Cooperatives (VMDAEC) Education Scholarship Foundation awards $1,500 scholarships in addition to other awards.

The scholarships are open to high school seniors or those graduating from home school in 2026 who are entering their first semester at a post-secondary or trade school in the fall of 2026. The primary residence of the applicant’s parent or legal guardian must receive its power from one of the 16 electric cooperatives served by the VMDAEC — including NOVEC.

Funds can be applied toward tuition, student fees, room and board, or textbooks.

The application deadline is March 20. To learn more and apply, visit: vmdaec.com/scholarshipfoundation.
