NOVEC is Giving Back

Across the world and here at home, life as we know it has come to a grinding halt due to the coronavirus. During these challenging times, NOVEC and its employees are supporting our customers and giving back to the community we serve. We're all in this together.

NOVEC supports Ciao Osteria and its mission to provide meals to first responders

NOVEC recently donated $1,000 to Ciao Osteria, a Centreville restaurant and NOVEC customer. The money will provide free meals to first responders, doctors and nurses in Northern Virginia. 

Sal Speziale, owner of the Italian restaurant, says after he and his wife Gina found out no one was providing lunch for nurses in the emergency room at Inova Fair Oaks Hospital, they took action. "We brought them 25 lunches and when they came to eat, you could see the stress on their faces," Speziale remembered. "But when they took off their masks there were such smiles on their faces that it just kind of gave you that energy that you needed." After that, Speziale decided to bring food for the night staff as well.

That action turned into a bigger project, and soon a community effort was born. For almost two months, donations have poured in from all over the country to help feed those that are the first to provide aid. NOVEC and NOVEC HELPS donate more than $10,000 to area food banks

COVID-19 has caused more requests for assistance from social service agencies.

To help meet demand, NOVEC and its employee-led nonprofit, NOVEC HELPS, gave more than $10,000 in May to 11 area food banks in the counties NOVEC serves — Clarke, Fairfax, Fauquier, Loudoun, Prince William, and Stafford. Organizations that received funds say the contributions go a long way. Mary Ellen D’Andrea, Western Fairfax Ministries director of development, says they’ve seen almost double the number of clients coming in seeking assistance during the pandemic. “We don’t know where we would be without your support.”

“Even though we couldn’t have our golf tournament fundraiser in May as planned, thanks to companies that contributed to the event, including Lee Electrical Construction and The Okonite Company, we could still give back to our communities,” says NOVEC HELPS Executive Director Ashley Arnold. “While NOVEC's first priority is keeping the lights on, helping others is how we take service to the next level.”
