NORTHERN VIRGINIA — The Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative announces its launch of NOVECnet, a high-speed Internet service offered through NOVEC Energy Solutions (NES), an affiliate company.
“NOVECnet provides high-speed Internet service in the Washington, D.C., region,” states Gilbert Jaramillo, NES chief operating officer. “NOVECnet is good news for the many people in our area who don’t have broadband access or alternatives. For the first time, they’ll be connected to the World Wide Web and they will have superior service.”
Exede Corporation will power the new service. According to Jaramillo, Exede made the most significant capacity leap in the history of satellite technology with its new satellite, ViaSat. Exede designed ViaSat to serve more than 1 million subscribers.
Jaramillo says NOVECnet’s high speed will allow computer users to:
- Watch streaming videos, TV shows and movies with fewer delays from buffering
- Share more photos quickly
- Video chat with less jitter
- Send and receive files quickly
- Download and stream music
- Experience exceptionally fast web browsing and email
“Everything people do online involves the transfer of data,” explains Jaramillo. “Some online activities, like streaming videos and downloading movies or software, require a lot of data capacity, while other activities, like email and web browsing, use much less. The more you do online, the larger your data plan should be.”
With the NOVECnet service, customers can choose how much data capacity they need each month. NES offers three plans:
- Basic, with 10 gigabytes (GB) per month
- Intermediate, with 15 GB per month
- Pro, with 25 GB per month
Jaramillo notes that all three plans provide the same fast speed: “We believe that customers should not have to pay extra to get the highest speed we offer.”
NOVEC Energy Solutions is a wholly-owned NOVEC affiliate that provides competitively priced natural gas service to approximately 25,000 natural gas customers in Washington, D.C., Maryland, Virginia, and Pennsylvania. NES now provides high-speed Internet service.
