NOVEC reports approximately 24,000 customers without service at 9:00 a.m., the result of fierce storms that struck Northern Virginia late Friday night. Larry Shaffer, manager, system operations, notes that most of the damage is the result of broken or fallen trees. There are broken poles and cross arms, as well. Damage is throughout the NOVEC system, from Loudoun County to Stafford County. Our initial assessment indicates this will be a multi-day service restoration event.

NOVEC crews and contract crews have been in the field since the storm hit and will be working around the clock until all service is restored. Safety is always a top priority for our employees and customers. Downed power lines and trees touching the lines are extremely dangerous and should never be touched. Downed power lines should be immediately reported by contacting NOVEC at 703-335-0500 or 888-335-0500.

A Verizon service outage is providing an additional challenge for area utilities, including NOVEC. All NOVEC line technicians and operations personnel are asked to report for work, as you may not receive a phone call.
