NORTHERN VIRGINIA, Aug. 14, 2013 — Kelsea Glidden is Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative’s 150,000th customer, a Centreville resident returning to NOVEC service territory with two roommates: Lyndsey Medlin and Melissa Sayyad. “I had no idea when I called to set up service with NOVEC we’d be the 150,000th customer,” says Glidden as NOVEC President/CEO Stan Feuerberg presented her with gifts in recognition of the historical moment. “It is definitely a nice surprise.”
Between NOVEC’s inception on Jan. 1, 1983 and 1990, the number of the Cooperative’s customer-owners almost doubled from 38,000 to 70,000, making NOVEC one of the top five fastest-growing electric utilities in the nation. The number of customers doubled again from 1990 to Jan. 1, 2008, when the number reached almost 140,000.
“Reaching 150,000 customers is a major milestone for us,” says Feuerberg. “NOVEC is one of more than 900 customer-owned electric cooperatives in the United States, but we’re far from typical. We operate in suburban Northern Virginia where vibrant commercial and residential growth is the norm. Customer demand is expected to grow approximately 3 percent per year over the next 10 years.”
NOVEC was recognized by J.D. Power and Associates as “Highest in Customer Satisfaction among Midsize Utilities in the South” in the 2012 Electric Utility Residential Customer Satisfaction Study℠. The Co-op also had the highest score among the 126 utilities in the study.
Feuerberg says, “I want Kelsea and her roommates, and all customers to know that NOVEC is committed to maintaining its corporate focus on customer satisfaction. I trust everyone will always find their business dealings with NOVEC to be both professional and pleasant.”
