NORTHERN VIRGINIA, Nov. 2, 2012 —Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative crews finished power restoration at 1:50 a.m. on Nov. 2 for all 32,000 customers who lost power during Hurricane Sandy. NOVEC has sent crews to New Jersey to help with power restoration efforts.
Mike Curtis, NOVEC vice president of Public Relations, says, “NOVEC thanks its customers for their patience this week. We also thank our NOVEC and contract crews as well as crews from Maryland, North Carolina and South Carolina who worked long days and nights. They kept going through pouring rain, wind, and cold in mud and debris to remove trees from lines, replace more than 80 broken poles, and repair lines to get every customer reconnected to the power grid.”
Despite the difficult task crew members have had this week, many are headed to New Jersey to help millions of people who lost power when the hurricane ripped through the Jersey Shore on Oct. 29. Curtis says, “Crews will work with other Virginia electric cooperatives to assist with what will be a massive repair and rebuilding effort.”
